A FOUR-year-old girl sparked a police alert after she was found wandering the streets in Burnley yesterday after slipping away from her stepfather to take her dog for a walk.

Police issued an urgent appeal to locate the parents of the four-year-old child after after she was found by a passer-by on Coal Clough Lane at around 10am.

At the time she was found the girl was wearing blue Peppa Pig pyjama bottoms, a pink nightie with a sheep on the front and a white floral pattern coat.

Officers took her to the police station while they tracked down who was responsible for her.

A police spokesman, said: “She was found walking a brindle coloured Staffordshire bull terrier dog.

“She was safe and enjoyed a few of slices of toast in the police canteen while we located her parents.

“It appears that her mother had gone to work and while her stepfather attended to her younger brother the girl had shown resourcefulness and decided to slip away to take her dog for a walk to the park.

“Thankfully she was picked up unharmed close to her home and was reunited with her family later in the morning.”

By 11.10am yesterday police said that an address had been confirmed and her parents were en route to collect her from the police station.

No arrests were made by police, who gave advice to the parents.
