MANY of us enjoy fast food meals sometimes whether it’s a Mcdonald’s treat with the children or an Indian takeaway on a Saturday night.
What is not acceptable is for youngsters to order deliveries of takeways to their school. This comes at a time when one in six under-16s in England today is obese and we are concerned about poor diet and the lack of exercise.
Councils long ago appear to have given up trying to stop takeaways opening in the vicinity of schools. But, practically, since schools are sited in popular areas, this is difficult.
One simple solution is to ban smartphones in all schools. It’s a mystery why children need phones during the school day anyway, and if they can’t contact takeaways they can’t order food.
If they need phones for security reasons or ringing for a lift, give them back at the end of the school day.
