AN elderly man was tricked into buying cheap watches in a far-fetched scam in Hale.

A driver pulled up alongside a man walking in the village yesterday, Thursday April 28, and offered to sell him ‘expensive’ watches at a bargain price.

The man in the car, described as white, with dark hair and around 30 years old, said he was Italian and was selling the watches because he was flying back to Geneva imminently and didn’t want to pay tax on them.

The driver drove the elderly man home when he said he didn’t have any money with him and the man ending up forking out £100 for the three watches.

Later it was found that the watches were worth much less than what was paid.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “Please be aware and share with friends and your vulnerable and elderly neighbours. No offences were committed, however the male was clearly taken advantage of.”
