ALMOST 5,000 people visited Astley Hall as it was transformed into a magical winter wonderland with spectacular lights, artistic performance and film.

Over two evenings, 4,732 people attended Chorley’s centrepiece building as it was lit up in LED spotlights and more than 200 candles to help mark the start of the town’s Christmas celebrations.

The show stopping weekend has been organised by Chorley Council together with assistance from the Friends of Astley Hall.

Helped by funding from Arts Council England, Astley Hall came alive on the Saturday with dramatic live dance and original music from La Petite Mort Theatre and there were screenings of a specially-commissioned film from Zemap productions.

On Sunday, visitors were able to watch a film of the performance and dance on a large screen in the Walled Garden as well as touring the house.

Councillor Bev Murray, who oversees Astley Hall for the council, said: “La Petite Mort Theatre and Zemap productions added artistic performance and film to the event this year and with some trees and more sides of Astley Hall lit, it was a lovely evening out for all the family on both nights.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“We made it free to attend and Café Ambio served delicious hot drinks and food on both evenings which made a perfect accompaniment to enjoying the delights of Astley Hall on a wonderful winter’s night.”
