A spokesman for the owners YBD, who also own two bars in Preston, said: “We are extremely proud to announce that MACs Burnley will be launching this December.

“The date of the opening will be announced soon.”

Promotional teams representing the owners were outside the premises on Saturday signing up new members for the venture.

They have also said they will be recruiting bar and other staff in the coming weeks.

MACs in Preston has proved popular with students and the younger market, with guest DJs and celebrity appearances.

The club has seen visits by hip hop star and former collaborator with Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff and Gangsta’s Paradise singer Coolio.

The business is owned by former UCLan student Andy Mac who also runs a Preston pub, Ships and Giggles and a promotions company YBD, which he started in 2005.

The company’s website, states: “YBD has grown into a promotional company, running nights in Preston, Chester and Nottingham.

“YBD has grown and now owns a nightclub and bar (MACs and Ships & Giggles), as well as sponsoring several celebrities, including, Coolio, Jazzy Jeff, Geordie Shore and UFC’s Norman Parke.”

The bar will take over the former premises of the Australian-themed Walkabout at 10-14 Hammerton Street.

Walkabout closed in March with the loss of 10 jobs, with the business citing “current market conditions and the high level of rent” for the closure.

The premises were later advertised for a rental of £35,000 per year.

The former Lava and Ignite club, further along Hammerton Street, based in the old Proctor’s Mill foundry has also closed recently as part of a shake-up by leisure giant Luminar.
