A PUB has reopened this week after a major refurbishment.

The Observatory, in Old Bank Lane, Blackburn, was closed for four weeks after being taken over by new licensee Sarah Davenport.

During that time the popular local has undergone major interior and external improvements and a complete redesign of its food and drink menus.

As part of the redevelopment project, the pub has been modernised with a ‘shabby chic’ theme.

The interior has been opened up with both bars modernised, along with a brand new coffee lounge offering hot drinks and free wi-fi.

Other changes at the pub include new Thwaites branded signs, new outside seating areas and a resurfaced car park area.

Ms Davenport, 35, said: “We’ve made a lot of changes, not only to the design of the pub but also in terms of what we have to offer like fresh local produce and quality beers.”

The licensee is no stranger to the pub trade, having previously worked for Thwaites for many years in its managed houses division and serving with independent ale association, Cask Marque.

As well as winning many awards including Thwaites’ manager of the year, she hosts beer and cellar management courses.

Highlights from her new menu include, baked Lancashire cheese and Nutty Black rarebit and beer battered North Sea haddock.

Andrew Buchanan, director of pubs and brewing at Thwaites, said: “We’re delighted to have Sarah on board. She has a great amount of experience.”
