WORK to demolish an “eyesore” building in Blackburn town centre has been completed with the developer now planning a four star hotel conference centre and restaurant on the site.

The former Larkhill Health Centre building in Mount Pleasant stood empty for several years before it was bought by Accrington brothers Sajed and Majed Hussain.

The demolition company working on the site is set to complete the work by the end of next week.

Sajed and Majed Hussain run three companies called Architectural Fibreglass Mouldings, Harman Packaging and Hobin Homes.

All three Accrington-based firms will be involved in the project, but they bought the property through Sajed Investments Ltd.

Sajed said: “We’re pleased with the progress in clearing the site.

“We will be seeking meetings with Blackburn with Darwen Council about our plans.

“Our vision is for a complex which could become a centre for people to gather, helping the night-time economy which has become a little faded in Blackburn.

“If Blackburn has any aspiration for city status, developments like our vision will be needed.”

Sajed said that they are also seeking permission from the council to adopt land around the site that is not suited to development.

He said that the brothers hope to create a three or four star hotel with a restaurant.

Larkhill Health Centre closed in 2011 when Blackburn’s Barbara Castle Way Health Centre opened.

Councillor Suleman Khonat, who represents Shear Brow, said: “It is always sad to see a public building go. But with the new health centre at Barbara Castle Way, I do not think we can complain.

“Since the building closed it has become an eyesore and suffered quite a bit of damage.”
