A NURSERY Market Stall is attracting Colne’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

Colne Town Council along with town centre traders and market stall holders have organised the event on Saturday, August 1 in order to introduce new traders to the market.

Among the stallholders are one who is just 17 and another aged 20, while Youth Enterprise Team members at West Craven High School, Barnoldswick are also selling their wares to promote entrepreneurship.

It is hoped some of the rookie traders will become more regulars or go on to establish businesses in the town.

Stallholder Rebecca Taylor-Shaw, 17, persuaded her parents to invest in her Moo Moo Melts business and she is determined to pay them back.

She said: “Moo Moo Melts are small wax discs that melt in an oil burner.

“They burn for four hours and scent your house with a range of fragrances.”

The teenager will be selling both the melts and the burners from her stall.

Tom Davies, 20, will be selling Unique’s multi-purpose cleaner developed by his two business partners after years gaining experience as car valets and cleaners.

A lengthy recuperation forced mum, Kay Wilkinson, to rest for three months when she developed a small jewellery business.

She said: “I found an online forum about chain-mail and I became hooked.

“We’re not talking armour, but fine, intricate designs.

“It is, essentially, knitting with metal and is very time consuming, because each jump ring must close properly in order not to catch on things or nip the skin.”

Barbara Taylor, who runs a meals-on-wheels service in Colne, also promises something tasty at the event.

She said: “Family favourites are what I specialise in, so there’ll be corned beef and potato pasties, meat and onion pies as well as steak pies.

“For those with a sweet tooth I’ll also be baking scones, rock buns, raspberry buns and cupcakes.”

There will be buskers and other musical entertainment to add to the atmosphere.

People interested in booking a stall for future Nursery Stall Events on August 15, September 5 and October 31 should contact Colne’s Town Clerk, Susan Graham.

She can be contacted on 01282 861888 or info@colnetowncouncil.org.uk.

She will need to know what the stalls are selling and the £15 fee has to be paid in full beforehand.
