A DARWEN woman’s death is inspiring her family and friends to encourage troubled youngsters to talk.

Walk With An Angel attracted dozens of charity walkers on Saturday – with more turning up for a fundraising bash in the Mill Hill pub – to remember Vicky Harrison.

Vicky, who had 10 GCSEs and three A-levels, was 21 when she took a drug overdose five years ago after applying for hundreds of jobs but failing to land a post.

Her dad Tony Harrison has since been a tireless campaigner for Papyrus, the national charity for the prevention of young suicide.

The 10-mile hike started at Witton Park and headed to the Mill Hill pub via Pleasington, the Canal and Eanam Wharf.

The prizes in the raffle included a vest-like top worn by Kylie Platt in an episode of Coronation Street, a signed Blackburn Rovers shirt and food hampers.

Tony, 58, said: “It went great again, as it always does.

“We had about 35 people with a lot of old faces.

“As long as people keep coming down we will keep saving lives.

“By coming on this walk, and with the Lancashire Telegraph reporting it, it gets the message out there and that’s what we wanted to do.

Leading the way on the walk were Jamie Lynch and Thomas Blackburn, who were once again dressed bizarrely.

Last week they had their legs waxed at the Mill Hill Working Men’s Club.

Tony added: “It was so wonderful and humbling to see so many familiar faces.”
