POLICE are encouraging those in possession of ecstasy tablets similar to ones linked to the death of a 45-year-old man to hand them in.

Detectives are currently investigating the death of businessman Tasleem Raza, of Fern Bank, Nelson, who is believed to have taken a number of tablets of what is thought to be ecstasy.

Paramedics and police were called to Mr Raza’s home in the early hours of Sunday, July 19 responding to reports he had collapsed and was unresponsive.

He had allegedly taken a number of the tablets.

Mr Raza, a father-of-two who runs a garage business in Shadsworth, was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police in Pendle are now requesting those with similar pills to dispose of them through the police in a bid to avoid ‘further deaths’.

The tablets are described as a turquoise-coloured shield shape.

A statement on Colne and West Craven Police’s Facebook site said: “We urge anybody in possession of similar tablets to hand them in to prevent anyone else falling ill or further deaths.”

It is understood that those who get rid of any ‘turquoise shield’ tablets in this way will not be arrested.

Police say they have spoken to a man about the pills, but he was not arrested or placed under caution.

They have confirmed they believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and have referred the matter to the coroners’ office.

In the wake of Mr Raza’a death, police have issued general advice about narcotics, including ecstasy.

It read: “If you have taken illegal drugs or if you know someone who has become unwell after taking illegal drugs call 999 and ask for the ambulance service.”

They add for more general drugs information and advice visit the ‘Talk To Frank’ website or call the National Drugs Helpline on 0800 77 66 00.
