A DECISION to refuse permission for a massive housing development on the site of a former theme park will not be appealed.

House builder Story Homes has decided not to appeal the decision of Chorley Council to reject plans to build 420 homes on the Camelot site in Charnock Richard, which it owns.

However, the developer said it would be consulting with all stakeholders on the future of the site in the spring.

John Jackson, planning manager for Story Homes said: “We have taken the decision not to appeal the planning refusal for Camelot.

“Instead, we will continue to work closely with the public and the council to revise our plans for the site in the hope that we can come up with a suitable scheme which meets everybody’s expectations and needs.

“We recognise that local residents have ideas and opinions about this site and we look forward to working closely with neighbours, residents, Chorley Borough Council and Lancashire County Council to shape the plans.”

Following public consultation in 2014, Story Homes originally proposed to build a ‘green’ village of 420 new homes on the former Camelot site, which closed in 2012.

Councillor Alan Whittaker, represents the area and was a member of an active residents’ group which opposed the plans last year.

He said: “This is green belt land and the development was far, far too big.

“It would have meant 3,600 vehicle movements a day on quiet rural roads. 420 homes is too many. There’s only 320 houses in Heskin and 500 in Charnock Richard.”
