A FORMER police station and four closed pubs are among dozens of well-known premises going under the hammer at a property auction later this month.

Auction house Pugh is conducting the auction on Thursday, February 26, with lots including the former Haslingden Police station, which is listed at £130,000 and is described as ‘ a former police station on a rectangular shaped site containing a mast and compound’.

The sale will also include closed pubs The West View Hotel, Revidge Road, Blackburn and the The Bridge Inn, Church Street, Accrington.

In addition, the three-storey former Ritz Cinema on Church Street, Accrington is being offered for sale with a guide price of £25,000.

The guide price for the West View Hotel is £140,000 while the minimum expected by those selling Accrington’s Bridge Inn is £100,000.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones, said: “I’m glad these significant buildings are up for auction and hope they can be put back into positive commercial and community use.”

Other properties in East Lancashire which go under the hammer at the auction include a development site on Equity Street, Darwen, which is expected to cost around £40,000.

The Manchester Road Drop In Centre, Accrington, and The Nelson Innovation Centre, Brunswick Street, are other notable lots, with respective guide prices of £180,000 and £275,000.

John Webster is chair of the East Lancashire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, and said:: “It’s been heartbreaking to see so many pubs closing over the past few years.

“This auction, including so many former thriving pubs, is an indication of that. Let’s hope that someone with some good ideas and entrepreneurial spirit buys some of these premises and gets them back to their intended use as community pubs.”

The auction is being held at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium from noon on Thursday, February 26.
