Last night police were still trying to identify him.

The man fell from an upper level of the car park above the service entrance adjacent to the Pioneer car park.

Lloyd Standen, 20, who works at the nearby Burnley Handwash and Valet car cleaning business on Brown Street, said: “Around 12.40pm we heard a lot of sirens and saw lots of police vehicles going to the back of the shopping centre.

“A woman came past and said she had heard a loud noise.

“I saw police vans, an ambulance and at least one unmarked car arriving.”

Following the incident Crime Scene Investigation officers could be seen working inside a blue tent erected at the service entrance.

There were two police vans, a CSI van and six police cars in attendance outside the 518-capacity car park.

Police placed a cordon around the immediate area and officers sealed off the ground level Pioneer No 2 car park, escorting those returning from the shops to their vehicles.

It is understood that the walkway is covered by CCTV cameras and that police were quickly given access to the footage.

One level of the car park was closed as officers conducted investigations but the car park was fully re-opened by 2.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said: “At around 12.40pm we were called to a report man that a man had fallen from a multi-storey car park on Curzon Street, Burnley.

“Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.

“We are continuing inquiries as to the identity of man and are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.”
