A 29-YEAR-OLD man is to be deported after being found to be in the country illegally.

The man, from India, who was discovered after Home Office immigration enforcement officers swooped on a property in Blackburn around 8.30am yesterday, was arrested before being detained pending his removal from the UK.

Officers said they had been acting on intelligence that an illegal immigrant could be at the Bold Street property.

The action comes days after the Home Office published a list of employers who were served with a civil penalty for flouting illegal working rules between October 1 and December 31 without starting to repay the fine within 28 days of the notice being served.

The government department also listed the establishments served with a second or further penalty notice once they have exhausted all their objection or appeal rights, regardless of whether any payments have been made.

Featuring on the list were Trishna’s of Whalley, in King Street, which was forced to pay a civil penalty of £15,000 after three Bangladeshi men were found working illegally at the business.

One had overstayed his visa, one was working in breach of his visa conditions and the other was an illegal entrant to the UK.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “We would urge members of the public with detailed and specific information about immigration crime to contact us.”
