People still have the chance to give their views on proposals to extend the Market Walk shopping centre.

Hundreds of people have already had their say on the plans when they were first unveiled but the authority wants to make sure as many people as possible get involved during the first round of consultation.

The £10million development, that could create over 200 jobs, would bring a flagship retailer to the town and give people more reason to visit Chorley.

The scheme would be funded by the council with no development taking place without getting tenants signing up in advance, meaning the authority would generate an income from the extension that would go to providing services for residents.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “We’ve been really pleased that so many people want to influence how we develop the shopping centre.

“There was a big flurry of interest when the plans hit the media but now people have had chance to think about the plans I’d urge them to let us have their comments if they haven’t done so already.

“The majority of people have been in favour of the proposals and the main issues people are identifying match in with ours around car parking, ensuring the development benefits the town as a whole and that any development would bring quality retailers offering something different to attract people to the town.”

There are two alternatives of the proposal that would see the development of up to eight new units, over two storeys on the Clifford Street side of the Flat Iron Car Park.

In addition, there is an option to demolish the civic offices on Union Street, to create additional car parking and possibly one additional leisure unit.
