PEOPLE with World War One memorabilia are being invited to display it on Chorley Markets as the traders look to remember the role local people played in the war.

The market stall coincides with commemorations going on across the borough during August to remember those who sacrificed their life in WWI and helped with the war effort back home.

A stall on the Covered Market, which is owned and managed by Chorley Council, will display memorabilia on Saturday.

The stall will be at the Cleveland Street entrance and be a focal point for visiting the town centre on the day, which will also be hosting the regular food and craft market on Fazakerley Street.

Market trader John Brennand, who has been helping organising the display, said: “We all know people who were involved in the First World War and we as traders wanted to do something to show our respect for those who sacrificed their lives or helped supporting everyone back home.

“The memorabilia is a great way for us all to look back and reflect on how heroic local people were and the sacrifices they all made so we can be where we are today.

“We’ve got a good selection of memorabilia already but if people have some at home they’d like to share then we’d be more than happy to display it on the day.”

If you’re interested in bringing any items along you can do so on the day, call at the market office or contact Chorley Council on 01257 515151.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council, said: “It’s a great opportunity to see medals, artefacts and letters from the war and at the same time spend some time talking to traders and doing some shopping on the markets.”
