Eccleston Library has officially opened the doors of its newly-built premises.

After spending several months in temporary accommodation, the library has moved into a brand new building that is part of a new shopping complex.

The library offers a range of activities, including computer courses, children’s story time, and ‘knit and natter’ groups.

County Coun Marcus Johnstone, cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services, said: “The new-look library boasts some wonderful new features, including moveable shelving, which will allow more public activities and community events to take place here.

“New computers will allow local people access to a wealth of information and technology. Everything from shopping, banking and paying bills, to social activities and accessing a variety of public services can be done online at the library.”

County Councillor Jennifer Mein, leader of the county council, said: “A library has a special place in its local community, for everyone from the under-fives who are learning to read to octogenarians learning how to surf the web.

“In these difficult financial times, it’s great to be able to improve a much-loved local service and I hope everyone in Eccleston makes the most of their new library.”
