More than 150 new jobs could be created at a new Parcelforce Worldwide centre, which was officially opened last week.

The new centre in Buckshaw Village, which employs 130 people, expects to expand and recruit the additional workers over the next three years.

The centre on Buckshaw Avenue, has the ability to handle up to 15,000 parcels per hour, and will allow the company to meet the increasing demand for parcels being sent through Royal Mail.

The Parcelforce Worldwide expansion is part of Royal Mail Group’s strategy to grow its parcel business in the UK and overseas.

The new depot forms part of their UK wide expansion programme, and was opened by Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle.

Mr Hoyle said: “I am delighted that Parcelforce Worldwide is expanding its Chorley operation.

“I welcome the creation of local jobs for constituents, which create a real boost for the local economy.

“As well as being a UK and international parcel delivery service, Parcelforce Worldwide is a local business and employer. I’m pleased that businesses and individuals in Chorley can benefit from this service.”

Processing centre manager Peter Jones said: “I am delighted that Mr Hoyle was able to officially open Parcelforce Worldwide’s new Chorley centre.

“It is an essential part of our investment to grow our business. It will enable us to handle more parcels for the North of England and Scotland, while ensuring we continue to provide a very high level of service to all of our customers.”
