A Leyland schoolgirl has won healthy eating workshops for her classmates in a design a bag competition run by a supermarket.

Leyland Methodist Junior School pupil Emilie Barnett, nine, impressed judges with her Leyland truck design.

Her poster has been printed onto limited edition bags that were handed out to customers on the launch day of a new Tesco branch in Turpin Green Lane.

Emilie’s prize was food education workshops courtesy of Junior Chefs Academy, and she also won a £30 Tesco gift card. Emilie said “It is the first time I have won a competition, I really enjoyed attending the store opening and me and my friends being shown around the new store by the store manager.”

Assistant headteacher Jenny Douglas said: “We are delighted that Emilie has won this competition.

“All of the children have been so excited in the lead up to the Junior Chef Academy workshops and can’t wait to take their tasty treats home to their parents.”
