Motorists approaching the outskirts of Chorley on the M61 next weekend are likely to see a temporary tented village up on the hillside.

Hundreds of Scouts from the North West and beyond will be descending onto the fields of Bibby’s Farm Scout Camp and Activity Centre to take part in a major Scouting event on Saturday to test their navigation skills and stamina in the annual Pike View Hike Challenge.

Around 360 young people will be taking part in teams of four, the interest being so great that a limit had to be put on the number of teams wishing to enter.

Around 90 teams are now expected to navigate their way around one of three routes in Anglezarke and surrounding moorland areas of the West Pennine Moors – a 13km route for Cubs to walk with an adult, 20km for Scouts and 24km for Explorers.
