A 54-year-old man accused of murdering his wife has appeared in court.

Mark Dyson, of Harrison Road, Adlington, appeared at Preston Crown Court via a video link from prison on Friday.

He is alleged to have asphyxiated 53-year-old Carole Dyson.

Mrs Dyson was found dead on Tuesday at the home they shared in Harrison Road.

Police, who had been alerted by concerns about Mrs Dyson’s welfare, smashed a living room window to get into the house.

On entry, they found the body of Mrs Dyson and she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbours said they did not think the couple had children and believed they used to live in Coppull before moving to Adlington about three years ago.

It is believed the couple were unemployed and lived in a housing association property.

Neighbours have spoken of their shock about the death of Mrs Dyson.

Hazel Baxendale, of Oxford Road, Adlington, said: “My stomach is still turning about what’s happened.

“People have been phoning me to ask me what has happened as I live on the road behind the house.

“You read about these things but you don’t expect it to be on your doorstep. I have never known anything like this to happen in the area.”

The case was adjourned until July 31 for a plea and case management hearing, and a trial date is to be arranged for later this year.

There was no application for bail and Dyson was remanded in custody at the end of the hearing.
