Chorley Citizen: Seaside beckons after hard-fought knockout Seaside beckons after hard-fought knockout

A trip to the seaside beckons for Chorley after they edged a hard fought National Knockout first round clash against visitors Longridge.

Andy Holdsworth’s men booked a second round tie away to Northern League rivals Blackpool but only after being soundly tested by their ultra-competitive Palace Shield opponents.

And it took a determined and well crafted seventh wicket stand by the in form Will Moulton and his skipper to see Chorley home after a middle order stumble gave Longridge a sniff of a cup upset.

There was less favourable news from Saturday when Chorley’s league clash at Barrow saw them suffer their first defeat of the season.

The home side made hay in the last few overs to post 190 for 8, Kieran McCullagh and Gaurav Dhar claiming three wickets each.

They then had Chorley on the rack at 6 for 4 before a splendid stand of 72 by professional Mohammed Jamal, who made 50, and player coach Dhar turned the tide and briefly threatened an unlikely win.

But once that was broken, the innings subsided and the visitors were eventually dismissed for 117.

Chorley have a double league header next weekend with a home game Blackpool on Saturday followed by a Bank Holiday trip to Lancaster.
