Work to create a new sensory garden in Astley Park has begun.

The garden is being created by Chorley Council on the site of what was known as the blind garden.

The council is working with the Friends of Astley Park to design the garden including setting out the planting scheme and agreeing the specification of the restoration of the stone walls that were there previously.

Plans for the garden include new seating to enable visitors to enjoy the experience, wider and improved access, and raised beds filled with sensory plants to test the senses, including smell, sound, taste, texture and colour.

Coun Bev Murray, who has responsibility for parks and open spaces at the council, said: “Last year, the council carried out a public consultation on plans to improve Astley Park and creating a new sensory garden was one of the most popular ideas.

“The sensory garden is a great community project.”
