A MUM-of-three from Clayton-le-Woods will run the London Marathon at the weekend for her cancer-beating father.

Kirsty Corbridge, 42, will be raising money for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, the charity which supported her dad, James Laurie Skuce, in his battle against prostate cancer.

Mr Skuce, 79, was diagnosed with the disease two years ago in a routine check-up. For eight weeks, he travelled to and from the Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston, where he received radiotherapy.

Now her dad is in recovery, Kirsty felt inspired to repay the hospital for its ‘excellent care and support’.

She said: “I was lucky enough to get a ballot place for the London Marathon but I wanted to do something that little bit extra for Rosemere.

“The charity is very unique and special, and truly helped all our family get through the dark days and get back on track.”

Mr Skuce, a grandfather-of-three, was given the all-clear in January and is fighting fit and healthy, and helping out regularly at a farm in Brindle, one of his big passions.

Kirsty, who works at the Clayton Green Sports Centre, is a keen athlete and runs for South Ribble Runners.

She trains most days, increasing her longer distance runs up to 23 miles over the past few weeks ready for the big day. She added: “I do try to run every day.

“It’s so invigorating and makes you feel so good about yourself and what you have.

“To do something I love for such a great cause is a pleasure.

“To be honest, I’m more worried about the build-up to the event and getting down there than actually doing the race itself.”
