Euxton War Memorial Group’s next fundraiser will be a Simon and Garfunkel tribute night, performed by two local men Tim Chu and Ian Bailey.

The event on Friday, April 11 at the Euxton War Memorial Club (the Insti), starts at 7pm. For tickets at £10, call Steve on 07740 112587 or email

The war memorial appeal began after the death of Euxton man, David Markland a serving member of the Corp of Royal Engineers.

Her was killed in Afghanistan whilst searching for IEDs.

Since 2010, a small voluntary group of residents of Euxton have met every month with one goal in mind, to design and construct a war memorial dedicated to all those from Euxton who have lost their lives in armed conflict from WW1 to present date .

The researchers in the group have uncovered a further 29 names in addition to those 20 already named on church memorials in the village, fundraising has been carried out both locally and nationally with assistance from many others to help us achieve our goal.

The group will be submitting a planning application for the memorial over the coming days but is still actively fundraising and promoting awareness, through its website and social networking page.
