The Spine Race is promoted as ‘Britain’s most brutal race’.

The longest, coldest and most demanding mountain marathon in Britain covers more than 268 miles of ice, snow, cold and savage winds.

Competitors have seven days to complete the race. Chorley's veteran intrepid runner Dave Lee completed the event in 19th place in 158 hrs 54 mins.

At the popular Parkrun events, firstly at Cuerden Valley Mike Hendry led home the club runners in 23 mins 34 secs with Fintly Royle and vet 70 John Minton the other team counters.
