The owner of a chippy which has opened without a name is offering customers the chance to come up with a suitable title for the business.

Mario Christodou, who set up the business in Buckshaw Village, is offering residents and customers a £100 prize to come up with a name by the end of the month.

Mario said: “We’ve been putting all our time in to fitting out the venue with modern décor and cooking equipment, so sitting down and thinking of a name just hasn’t happened. But more importantly, Buckshaw Village residents have waited such a long time for their own chip shop, I’d like them to have a say in regards to what it is called.”

Situated in the new retail units behind Tesco on Barnes Wallis Way, Buckshaw Village, the eatery will be open Mondays to Saturdays serving traditional fish and chips, kebabs, pies and other savoury snacks.

Mario continued: “Ideally, I’d like the name to reflect the history of the area but I haven’t thought of one that works, so now it is in the hands of our future customers.”

Mario has been working with Buckshaw Business Hub to get to know fellow members of the local business community.

Managing director Jamie MacGregor said: “It is great to be supporting Mario and have a fish and chip shop opening up in the village at long last. The ‘name the chippy’ competition is a great way of interacting with the local residents and giving the shop a community feel from the word go.

“I’ll definitely be making an entry myself, probably with the help of my six-year-old twins.”

Entries in to the competition can be dropped in to the shop.

In order to win the £100 people should include their name, address and contact details.

The winner will be chosen in early March and the shop front signage will then be erected.
