Police are searching for arsonists after a late night blaze at a petrol station in Hoghton.

Emergency services were called to the Old Oak Service Station in Hoghton Lane at 10.25pm on Sunday, January 19 following a report of a blaze.

It is thought somebody climbed on to the roof of the kiosk and smashed through the tiles before pouring accelerant into the building and setting it alight.

The kiosk is just 15 metres from the petrol pumps and if the fire had spread, fire officers said it could have led to a more serious incident.

The petrol station was not open at the time and nobody was injured.

Police are now appealing for anybody with any information to come forward.

Detective Constable Dom Webster said: “We are following up a number of lines of enquiry, but I am keen to hear from anybody who has any information about this incident.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area on the night in question to contact us.

“The Old Oak Inn is next to the garage and was open at the time the fire was started, if you were in the pub that evening and think you may have information which could help then please contact police.”

Anybody with any information, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
