Five boys, including an 11-year-old, are to appear in court on arson charges in relation to a blaze which destroyed much of a high school.

The youths were arrested and bailed after the fire at St Mary’s School RC School, Royal Avenue in Leyland on Sunday, September 1 last year.

Police said that following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service five youths have all been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

The boys, aged 11, 12, 13, 13 and 15, and all from Leyland, will appear before Preston Youth Court on Tuesday, February 4.
