A town centre church is counting the cost after raiders smashed through three doors, getting away with just a few pounds in cash.

The break in happened at Chorley United Reformed Church overnight on Thursday, January 23.

The thieves broke through three doors causing considerable damage.

Rev Martin Whiffen said “We are saddened that our church has been targeted in this way.

“We work hard to serve the local community not only through our open kitchen and the new soup kitchen, but by hosting numerous local community groups.”

Brian Darbyshire, property steward at the church, said: “We didn’t lose much as our church does not have any valuable property and money is never kept on site, but the 50+ Club run by Lisieux Hall had their session disrupted and you really can’t put a price on that.”
