Road safety message driven home to Chorley kids

A Chorley primary school was one of just five to host a very special visit last week, as ‘Belt Up Week’ promoted the road safety message.
Whittle-le-Woods Primary School was recognised for its contribution to road safety over the years, with a very special visitor – The Croods character Belt.
Belt Up Week is a new partnership between national road safety charity Brake and the hit DreamWorks animation The Croods, with school children across the UK fastening their seatbelts to learn the Croods Cross Code with a little help from the special guests and fun learning materials.
Coinciding with the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Croods, one of 2013’s most successful children’s films, Belt Up Week engaged schools across the country in the important messages of road safety, helping to save lives in fun and interesting ways this winter.
The school hosted a themed assembly and children were given the chance to board the Belt Up Bus to learn more about road safety.
Children who were selected following a week-long Belt Up poster competition met representatives from road charity Brake, and hung out with costume character Belt and Fun Kids Radio DJ Josh.
Brake spokesman Richard Coteau said: “As a road safety charity we’re always looking for fun ways to communicate the very important messages around staying safe.
“We’re thrilled to be visiting Whittle-le-Woods Primary School, as they have shown over the years a great track record for promoting road safety, particularly through our annual Giant Walking Bus event, so we are rewarding their effort and the tour will really benefit from their engagement in the issues.”
