Citizen appeal: Refuge's thanks for gift donors
7:00am Tuesday 31st December 2013 in News
Christmas and 2014 will be a little happier for local families affected by domestic violence – thanks to the Citizen’s Tins and Toys Appeal and our wonderful readers.
The Citizen teamed up with Co-operative Travel on Chapel Street and The Travel Lounge, Fazakerley Street, which acted as collection points.
Readers and customers and both locations filled dozens of boxes, with a response which once again overwhelmed Chorley Women’s Refuge.
The donations will be distributed by the refuge not just for Christmas but throughout the next year to victims of domestic violence and their children who find themselves with nowhere else to turn.
Donations of not only toys but non-perishable food and toiletries, mean the generosity of Chorley folk will make a contribution for several months next year.
Sherish Aslam, service manager of Chorley Women’s Refuge, said: “This is the biggest single contribution of its kind we get. It’s simply overwhelming.
“The staff and families we help simply cannot believe the help that our community is prepared to give.
“I can promise that it does make a real difference and shows solidarity with those in crisis. I would particularly like to thank the staff at both Co-operative travel and The Travel Lounge for their support and help in making this happen. Thanks a million to everyone.”
