6:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
An 83-year-old man was burgled after being confronted by a knife-wielding man on the doorstep of his Leyland home.
At around 8pm on Tuesday, October 1 the victim answered a knock on the door of his home on Wellington Avenue and was confronted by a man armed a knife.
The knife man pushed his way in and knocked the victim to the floor, before searching him and causing a cut to his hands.
The pensioner was then forced to hand over cash before the offender fled.
Detective Sergeant Lee Anfield from Leyland CID said: “This is a horrific crime in which a vulnerable old man has been targeted in his own home.
“He was left very shaken by his ordeal and was taken to Royal Preston hospital for treatment to cuts to his hands.
“He is being cared for by family and neighbours but it is vital this man is caught and we need the public’s help.
“I’d urge anybody that saw anything suspicious in the area of Wellington Avenue to contact us immediately.”
The offender was a white man, aged in his late 30s, 6ft and heavy build.
He spoke with local accent and was wearing a balaclava.
Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101.
