A MAN has died in hospital after falling from a bridge on the M61 near Chorley.
The man, who is believed to be in his 50s and has not been named, was not struck by any vehicles and died on Monday at Royal Preston Hospital.
Police were called to the incident at 9.50am last Thursday after the man fell off the bridge in Babylon Lane, Heath Charnock, between junctions six and eight of the northbound carriageway.
A crew from the North West Air Ambulance was called and lanes one and two of the motorway were closed until 11am, causing delays of up to one hour.
The Highways Agency said normal traffic conditions resumed at around 1.30pm.
