Chemical leak at Leyland industrial plant
5:00pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
FIRE crews were called out to Leyland on Monday after they received reports of an unknown chemical leaking from a plant off Centurion Way.
Four fire engines attended the scene shortly after 11.10am and worked alongside Lancashire County Council to identify the chemical.
Fire fighters wearing specialised suits and breathing apparatus were sent into the plant to retrieve a sample of the chemical, which was later identified as paraformaldehyde.
A spokesman for the fire service said that the chemical was leaking from a container within the premises at the industrial site.
Crews were at the scene for five hours and there were no casualties but some people were affected by the chemical.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “We worked alongside the county in order to determine what exactly the chemical was.
“We were told en route that nobody was injured or trapped inside.”
The fire service would not disclose how the leak happened.
