Sports day inspires Chorley children
4:06pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
Rain showers failed to dampen the spirits of families who enjoyed an action-packed afternoon of activities at Astley Park at the weekend.
The free event was an opportunity for people who rarely participate in sport, to get involved by having a go at different activities and maybe find a new hobby.
Saturday’s event included a mini football tournament, running, tennis, cricket and golf.
The more unusual activities such as trampolining, beach volleyball, penalty shoot-out and bootcamp challenge proved popular as families bounced their way through the day.
Coun Bev Murray, who is responsible for sporting activities at Chorley Council, said: “Sports in the Park is a brilliant way to show people of Chorley how fun joining in with sport can be and the event highlights the council’s commitment to encouraging our residents to live a healthy, active lifestyle.
“By putting together sporting events such as this and receiving such brilliant support from residents, the borough can keep alight the legacy from London 2012 Olympics and inspire the next generation to get active and pursue sporting activities.”
Participants had a chance to meet up with local sports clubs and find out how to get involved on a more regular basis.
