SOME of the most popular children’s fairytales and stories will be brought to life in a series of open air productions starting next week.

Every Monday through the summer holidays, The Storytellers will be bringing classic tales to life on the lawn at Worden Park in Leyland.

Pendle Productions, the company behind the hugely successful pantomime at the Thwaites Empire Theatre in Blackburn, stages the weekly productions.

Families are invited to bring along a picnic and enjoy the shows which will be held at 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Each week, for even more fun, there will be also be hour-long workshops at 11am, before the first performance, with the themes of theatre dance moves, a play in an hour, West End musicals, film making and stage fighting.

These workshops are free to any child with a ticket for one for the two afternoon performances.

The season kicks off Monday withAlice In Wonderland. You can join Alice as she falls down the rabbit hole to a land where all the characters she meets really are as mad as they seem and leave you wondering… was it all a dream?

Following this on August 5 is the tale of Pinocchio, the wooden puppet and his quest to rescue his father, Gepetto.

Tales from the Gypsy Caravan will be told on August 12 with the The Storytellers bringing together tales from around the world.

These include The Greedy African Spider and the Honey Tree, the Slovak tale of Raisa, Baba Yaga and finally the hilarious Chinese tale of Bigmouth and how his mean landlord, Skinflint, gets his comeuppance with the help of a “magical” horse!

Tom Sawyer brings a little of the Deep South of America to Worden on August 19 so you can find out about his many scrapes with his friend Huckleberry Finn and to round off the season in grand style, Mr Toad of Toad Hall pays a visit as the classic Wind In The Willows is brought to life on August 26.

Tickets are all £7 and one adult gets in free with every two child tickets purchased. Tickets are available direct from Pendle Productions on 01253 839375, wordentickets@pendleproductions.co.uk or at the gate on the day.
