AN energetic and colourful day is promised at the end of April with more than a dozen groups confirmed to attend Chorley’s Day of Dance.
Every spring, the Amounderness Ladies Morris Dancers descend on the town centre and this year they will return on Saturday, April 27 with at least 12 more groups.
From 10.30am until 12.30pm the dance groups, which include Eccleston Heritage Clog, Stone the Crows and Leap to your Feet, will take over the town centre bringing their infectious moves to Chorley’s pedestrianised streets.
After lunch, the 12 sides will take turns performing outside the Market Tavern in Cleveland Street to create a magical musical atmosphere for shoppers from 2pm until 4pm.
Councillor Adrian Lowe, who oversees events in the town centre, said: “The Amounderness Ladies Morris Dance group have been coming to Chorley for the last 13 years and every time they are here their performances get better and better. People who have been in the town centre when they have performed in the past have commented on the fantastic atmosphere and with 12 more groups already confirmed for this year’s Day of Dance, it promises to be the best yet.”
Other groups attending include the Singleton Cloggers, Newburgh Morris, Solway Morris group from Cumbria, Briggate Morris group, Furness Morris group and the The Flash Company three-piece band.
