New look for Chorley homes

A £400,000 scheme to improve more than 50 homes on a Chorley estate has begun.
The work aims to improve the appearance of the Chorley Moor estate over the next few years.
It will include car parking, landscaping of communal areas, a selection of walls and railings for front gardens to replace dilapidated fencing, new bin screens, rejuvenated canopies for front doors and feature cladding.
Chorley Community Housing (CCH) has commissioned contractor Forrest to carry out works in the Harestone Avenue area and the first property to be completed will be used as a show home for residents to see how their own homes could look once the work is complete.
Mike Murphy, regional manager at CCH said: “Although we’ve have carried out works on the interior of the properties over the past five years, the external appearance of parts of the Chorley Moor estate, which was built after the Second World War, is showing its age.
“The treatments we are carrying out at Harestone Avenue are designed to give that part of the estate a lift and make the houses look more appealing.”
Local residents have been involved in the planning of the scheme from an early stage and many attended a consultation event in October 2012 to discuss the proposals for their homes.
Further to this consultation, residents will be contacted over the coming weeks to agree their final choices and for pre-entry surveys.
