Coppull benefits fraud mum claimed £2,000
8:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in News
A mother from Coppull has pleaded guilty to fraud after obtaining more than £2,000 in benefits she wasn’t entitled to.
It was an anonymous tip-off that led to an investigation resulting in Keeley Elizabeth Eastham, 22, of Longfield Avenue, appearing before Preston Magistrates Court.
The magistrates were told she’d first claimed income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit as a single parent and as such was entitled to do so.
However, she failed to tell the Department for Work and Pensions and Chorley Council when her partner moved in with her.
The court heard that her partner was in full-time work and was in a position to support her, but she continued to claim benefits.
Eastham was sentenced to 12 months conditional discharge and steps are now being taken to recover the overpayment in full.
