'Good' Leyland school to become academy
8:00am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News
Worden Sports College is set to become the first academy in Leyland.
The news comes after the college, which is set to be called Academy@Worden, was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and the only local school to have 100 per cent A*-C GCSE pass rate.
Headteacher Chris Catterall said that staff, pupils and governors are overjoyed to be joining an elite band of schools rated good or better that have succeeded in applying to become an academy.
Mr Catterall said: “Becoming an academy would allow Worden to continue with the success it has already enjoyed.
“From the best wishes it had already received it would serve to strengthen partnerships with commerce, South Ribble Borough Council, UCLAN and the many community organisations working within Leyland.
“This is a great leap forward for Worden and is proof of the commitment of the staff and governors to the pupils and a successful long term future in Leyland in the 21st Century.”
