Chorley mum on a marathon mission
A Chorley mum is urging runners who have a London Marathon place to run for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust which supports her nine-year-old son.
Gillian Beech, who works on the checkout at Morrison’s supermarket is herself running the 26.2 mile race on Sunday, April 21, for Team CF because her son Brandon has cystic fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK’s most common, life-threatening inherited diseases.
Brandon was diagnosed aged three and has to take 30 tablets a day as well as breathe in drugs through a nebuliser, and do physiotherapy twice a day to keep his lungs clear.
Gillian said: “I’m doing this for my son and to help support the CF Trust. Brandon has always wanted to go to London and loved watching the marathon on TV, he told me ‘you should do that mum and I can come and watch you’ so I am doing it for him.” Gillian added: “We have times when Brandon gets very ill and is admitted to hospital and sometimes our life seems a daily battle.
“Despite this Brandon is amazing and never moans about anything, his attitude is what keeps us going through the hard times.
“He was jumping around the room when I got my place in the marathon and I can’t wait to see his face when I cross the finish line.
“I am hoping that anyone in Lancashire who has been lucky enough to get a ballot place in next year’s marathon will consider using it to run for Brandon.
“If I can inspire even one person to join me and fundraise for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust I’ll be thrilled.”
