Woman, 70, dies in Leyland flat fire

A pensioner has died after a fire at her home in Leyland.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident at 12.03pm on Saturday.
They received reports of smoke and fire coming from an address at Northbrook Gardens, off Bannister Drive, Leyland.
The 70-year-old woman, who was in a ground floor flat and that they had rescued a woman, who was taken to hospital. A fire service spokesman said the woman was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, but died of her injuries on Saturday evening.
He added: “Tragically, the lady has died of her injuries.
“A fire and police investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading up to the tragedy is underway.”
A fire service spokesman said early indications did not lead them to suspect arson and Lancashire police have since confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.
The blaze is believed to have originated in the bedroom of the flat.
John Taylor, from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Firefighters knew she had been severely injured, and during the evening we got word from the hospital that she had passed away.”
