£50 fine for dropping cigarette butt in Eccleston

A man who dropped a cigarette butt on the ground in an Eccleston street was fined by magistrates after he pleaded guilty by letter.

Abbas Aftab, 26, of Calder Street, Blackburn, was spotted by a police community support officer who was sitting in his car which was parked on The Green.

The officer saw him walking along the pavement smoking, then saw him discard the cigarette before he knocked on the door of a house nearby.

The PCSO told Aftab what he’d seen and he issued him with a fixed penalty notice which remained unpaid despite two reminders being sent to him.

Aftab pleaded guilty by letter and admitted what he’d done was wrong.

He was fined £50 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
