First published in News

Thieves have stolen four charity collection boxes from a vets’ practice in Chorley town centre.

Police said the raiders struck at Pinewood Veterinary Practice, Crown Street, overnight on Sunday.

A window close to the reception area was smashed and police believe someone reached inside to scoop up the collection tins, which were contained spare change destined for various charities.

The tins contained and estimated £80 in total.

A spokesman for the neighbourhood policing team in Chorley described the crime as “despicable”.

He added: “This person or persons has damaged property to get at a small amount of cash which was destined for good causes.

“We don’t believe they actually went inside the building but simply smashed the window and reached through.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw anybody acting in a suspicious way in the Crown Street or Queens Road areas on Sunday evening.”

Anyone with information is asked to called police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
