Children at Derian House Hospice received a pre-Christmas treat after being chosen to receive Virgin Media’s Winter Warmer experience.

The Winter Warmer celebration saw a festive Airstream caravan pull up at Derian House serving turkey and cranberry burgers, mince pies and spiced apple drinks to staff, volunteers and patients.

The vehicle was accompanied by its very own Christmas elf, who played festive tunes and delivered some early presents.

Derian House focuses on specialist palliative respite and terminal care for children who are suffering from life-shortening illnesses.

Leah Booth, 22, who is a regular visitor to Derian House, was chosen as the lucky lady to cut the ribbon and declare the celebration officially open.

She said: “It’s so nice to have been chosen for this treat. The hospice does so much for so many children. This has been so much fun for all the kids, a very cold but very fun day.”

Fundraising manager Susie Poppitt said: “We were delighted to have been put forward for their Winter Warmer celebration, and even more thrilled to be selected by local residents to receive this wonderful treat.

“We’d like say a huge thank you to Virgin Media for such a fantastic treat.”
