Police launch blitz on unlocked homes and cars in Coppull
7:00am Monday 29th October 2012 in News
Police blitzed the streets of Coppull running a crime prevention operation codenamed ‘Operation Cannon’.
Between 4pm and 7pm on October 17, neighbourhood police split into five teams to patrol the village to speak to residents and offer crime prevention advice to those owners found with insecure vehicles or houses.
In total, 13 garages were found unlocked and 16 vehicles insecure, some with valuables on show.
Officers then headed back out to the main road through Coppull, Spendmore Lane, for maximum high visibility during rush hour.
Community beat manager PC Matt Lee said: “The feedback from the public was great, the majority of people were really appreciative of our proactive approach to try and reduce crime and I really hope that those crime prevention messages stay with people.
“Our advice is always to keep your cars and homes locked and secured at all times, even if you are just leaving them unattended for a short while, that will be enough time for an opportunist crook to take advantage.”
