Biography

MP Since - 1997 Majority - 7,625 Born - 10/06/1957, Married (2 daughters).

Education - Anderton County Primary, Lords College, Bolton, Horwich FE, Bolton TIC (City & Guilds Construction).

Previous Occupation - Company Director - Printing Company, Founder Director (1988) and Chairman (1992-96) of Chorley Rugby League Club.

Personal Overview - Has business experience, and an apparent Rugby League interest. He has a history of involvement in his local Council, and since entering Parliament has gained membership of several Select Committees. After the death of Princess Diana he called for Heathrow to be renamed in her memory. A strong protector of local interests he has spent a considerable time promoting local industry which is largely centred around defence (aerospace (BAe), and Royal Ordnance).

Member of the European Scrutiny Select Committee (2005-).

Characteristics - Has made a solid start to his political career, by attaining several Select Committee memberships. A colourful and humorous MP who wanted Heathrow Airport to be renamed in memory of Princess Diana. His Honourable title is a consequence of his father's ennoblement in 1997 (Doug Hoyle, former Labour MP for Warrington North, elevated to the Lords just before the 1997 election and thus precluding the chance of serving in the Commons at the same time as his son). Named after Lindsay Hassett, a former Australian cricket captain (his father is a keen cricket fan and a long-serviing Chairman of the Cricket All Party Group).
