The editor welcomes letters from readers but reserves the right to amend or shorten them, or to refuse to print them. Anonymous letters cannot be accepted; names, full addresses and a contact telephone number must be given as a sign of good faith, although only a portion of the address will be used. People must get back to work

A lot has been written on how the Government wants to cut down on benefit fraud.

This is all well and good but before that happens we have to get away from the culture whereby some people expect the state to provide for them from cradle to grave.

The state should look at the amount it pays in benefits to ensure it does not exceed what would be the minimum wage of someone in full time work.

Perhaps then we might see people looking for employment to get out of the poverty trap.

Its all good and well to sprout about people without work sitting in front of the tv enjoying themselves. What about people in their late 50's who have worked all their lives in a minimum wages job being put off without notice or a redundancy packet,it takes about 3 biro's of ink to fill in the forms needed to get a small amount of needed funds to survive, thats if you are lucky to get funds. Do not put all unemployed into one category. You too may need to fill in the forms before too long! Have some compassion.
