Our father, Ken McCann, collapsed at Market Walk in Chorley on November 11.
Unfortunately, he did not regain consciousness and died before reaching hospital.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who helped him, tried their best to resuscitate him and offered him comfort in his last moments.
We will be forever grateful.
Dad had struggled through difficult times in recent years and was only a shadow of his former self.
In his glorious prime he was a hugely intelligent man, a larger-than-life, sometimes outrageous, character and a brilliant raconteur.
He was a kind hearted and generous man who helped many, not least in the way he enriched the minds of the many students he taught around the county including at Winstanley College, Wigan.
He was by turns fantastic and frustrating. It was sometimes hard to keep up with his unrelenting sense of adventure, but it was thrilling to be along for the ride.
Not many people who met Ken ever forgot him or his zest for life. Everyone seems to have fantastic stories of things they got up to with him. He has achieved his immortality by living on in the laughter of those who, even at this difficult time, remember his exploits with unbridled joy.
If anyone who reads this and remembers our Dad has a favourite tale then we would love it if they would pass it on to us, so that we can collect them as a tribute to him.
First and foremost he was our Dad and we will try in the way we live our lives to honour his memory.
The funeral is at Lyons Lane Methodist Church, at 10.30am on Monday, November 24.
